IEFS 2013 AgendaProgram (Course) Description
The 8th Annual International External Fixation Symposium (IEFS) brings together leading University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio Faculty & International Scientists and Surgeons for two and a half days of interactive didactic sessions and hands-on workshops. The program will feature the most current information regarding the indications and principles for use of internal and external fixation in diabetic foot and ankle pathology including trauma, Charcot reconstruction and plastic surgery. Emphasis will be placed on the multidisciplinary team approach for treating the diabetic foot in an academic center.
Who Should Attend?
This symposium is designed to meet the unique educational needs of podiatric surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, vascular surgeons, residents, fellows and all other health care professionals interested in or involved in the management of diabetic foot pathology.
As a result of participating in this continuing education activity, healthcare professionals will
be able to:- Describe the indications and discuss principles for use of internal and external fixation in diabetic foot and ankle pathology including trauma and reconstructive surgery.
- Apply various internal fixation devices as well as monolateral, hybrid and circular external fixation devices.
- Discuss principles and techniques for soft tissue reconstruction of traumatic and diabetic foot and ankle wounds.
- Understand the basic non-invasive vascular laboratory testing and diagnosis for peripheral vascular disease.
- Understand the decision making process of medical imaging of the diabetic foot.
- Understand the decision making process for endovascular versus open bypass surgery.
- Describe current treatment approaches for diabetic foot infections.
- Implement a multidisciplinary team approach to the overall treatment of diabetic foot and ankle pathology.
