Course Description

Join leading UTHSCSA Faculty & International Scientists and Clinicians for four days of lectures, discussion and workshops. During this conference participants will understand the indications and principles for use of external fixation in diabetic foot and ankle pathology including trauma, revisional and reconstructive surgery, learn how to apply monolateral, hybrid, and circular external fixation devices on saw-bone models, understand principles and techniques for soft tissue reconstruction of diabetic foot and ankle wounds, learn how to apply the latest technology of internal fixation devices on saw-bone models and also understand the indications and principles of current orthobiologics, bone growth stimulation and negative pressure wound therapy treatments for difficult closure of traumatic and diabetic wounds.


Learning Objectives

  • Describe the indications and discuss principles for use of external fixation in diabetic foot and ankle pathology including trauma, revisional and reconstructive surgery
  • Apply a monolateral, hybrid, and circular external fixation devices on saw-bone models
  • Discuss principles and techniques for soft tissue reconstruction of traumatic and diabetic foot and ankle wounds
  • Describe the indications and discuss principles of current orthobiologics, bone growth stimulation and negative pressure wound therapy treatments for difficult closure of traumatic and diabetic wounds
  • Implement a multidisciplinary team approach to the overall treatment of the diabetic foot and ankle pathology

This symposium is designed to meet the unique educational needs of Podiatrists, Orthopedists, Pedorthists, Physical Therapists and other health care professionals.

The UTHSCSA Continuing Medical Education Office reserves the right to limit enrollment or cancel any course no less than a week prior to the course. Should circumstances make this necessary, tuition will be refunded in full.
