Course Description

The University of Texas System will host Shared Visions: Improving Systems to Improve Lives Conference and Recognition Event October 15 – 16, 2014 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. This year's event will combine the annual Clinical Safety and Effectiveness Conference (CS & E) with the Systems Engineering Conference bringing together doctors, clinicians and students from across the University of Texas healthcare system.

The conference will open with a keynote presentation from Darrell Kirch, MD, President and CEO of the Association of American Medical Colleges. Kerry Johnson, Founding Partner and Chief Innovation Officer from the Healthcare Improvement Association of America will give the Wednesday lunch keynote presentation. The Thursday morning keynote address will be given by James Benneyan, Director and Professor of Industrial Engineering at the Center for Health Organization Transformation at the New England VA.

Registrants will have the opportunity to participate in an optional pre-conference interactive sessions offered the afternoon of Tuesday, October 14. Topics for these sessions include Infection Control presented by Jason Bowling, MD, Jose Cadena, MD and Pranavi Sreeramonju, MD, The Role of Systems Engineering in Healthcare led by Victoria Jordan, PhD and Sampling Strategically presented by Diane Schaub, PhD.

Abstracts are being solicited from graduates of the CS & E class, as well as, abstracts for Systems Engineering, Research and Education. All submitted abstracts will be considered for poster and/or oral presentation. CS & E abstracts qualify for conference awards. The deadline for submitting an abstract is Friday, August 29 at 5:00 p.m. An awards dinner recognizing exceptional individuals and team improvement efforts with awards to top CS & E abstract submissions will take place during the conference on Wednesday evening, October 15, 2014.

Who Should Attend?

This course is oriented towards Graduates of the CS & E and ATP programs. UT System employees and top executives of all UT System health components.

 

Learning Objectives

As a result of participating in this continuing education activity, healthcare professionals will be able to:

  • Establish clinical collaborations to promote the use of evidenced - based guidelines across multiple applicable practice sites.
  • The UT Systems Engineering track will offer presentations that focus on tools and applications of the Science of Quality Improvement.
  • The Clinical Safety & Effectiveness track of the conference will share presentations with insight into delivery of clinical care that is safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable and patient-centered.

Employee of institution within the University of Texas System – $100
Abstract authors - $100
Student in undergraduate or graduate medical education program at UTexas System institution - $75
Attendee from outside University of Texas System - $250

Attendees will be responsible for paying their travel and hotel accommodations.

Registration includes continental breakfast both mornings, light lunch and awards dinner on Wednesday and a boxed lunch on Thursday.
